DPF Cleaning

DPF Cleaning For Trucks & Buses

DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. In a diesel engine, it is part of the emission controls. DPF filters are installed in the exhaust stream of diesel engines made after Jan. 1, 2007. This is a result of more strict emission regulations.

The DPF removes the particulate matter (soot) from the exhaust. Then, the soot gets pushed to the bottom of the filter and stored there. Over time it builds up, and the DPF requires cleaning.

DPF Cleaning Process

Inspect

Inspect

Eyre first visually inspects the DPF and looks for signs of damage. For instance, cracked brick and welds, dents in the can, and missing flanges. We also look for signs of soot bypassing the filter, and other damages that could be keeping the filter from running properly.
Air Pulse

Air Pulse

Ash is a very fine substance that can be difficult to remove from DPF filters. With the Donaldson Pulse Cleaner, Eyre uses high-volume, low-pressure pulse to remove unburned soot and ash from the filter. Once the pulse cleaning cycle starts, we test and record the DPF pressure level. This helps determine the relative restriction of the DPF.
Bake

After pulse cleaning, we further clean the filter using a high-temperature heating process. The Donaldson DPF Thermal Regenerator burns soot off the filter. In addition to the heat, the machine also uses a low volume, low pressure pulse for further cleaning.

After the DPF filter is cleaned, we give a thorough inspection to make sure the filter is ready to be placed back in the vehicle. We can then give the customer an accurate report of the health of their DPF.

Benefits of DPF Cleaning

  • Increased fuel economy

  • Increased performance & horsepower

  • Less downtime

  • Longer DPF life

  • Lower maintenance costs

Lengthen Your DPF’s Life

New DPF’s can cost between $3,000-$8,000. Sometimes even more. So, routine maintenance is critical to avoid buying a new filter. Routinely cleaning a DPF filter will also decrease downtime and service expenses. On the other hand, it increases proper system operation and profit. Soot that builds up over time creates back pressures that will eventually lead to increased regeneration down time, loss of horsepower, reduced fuel economy, filter damage and, ultimately, engine damage.

Additionally, improper care of your DPF could result in large fines as a result of your diesel engine not resorting with air pollution laws ( EPA ). Thus, it’s vital to regularly clean and maintain your filters. This not only preserves the functionality of the filter, but also saves on fuel and protects your engine.

Properly Cleaning The DPF

Eyre Heavy Duty provides thorough cleaning of DPF filters. In addition to soot, a small amount of carbon may stick tightly to the DPF’s walls, forming a gooey or even hard substance. Cleaning this out can be far more challenging than getting rid of the somewhat powdery ash. Not properly cleaning the DPF can shorten the unit’s life and warranty.

On the other hand, thorough cleaning may result in better fuel economy and more miles before cleaning the filter again. Even cleaning out the loose ash is a tedious job, because it’s throughout almost all the passages. Eyre’s experience, skill, and equipment ensures that the DPF gets back to its original performance level and runs smoothly.

OUR CLEANING EQUIPMENT

Eyre uses state of the art DPF cleaning equipment to make sure your filters are properly cared for. Our equipment consists of Donaldson DPF Pulse Cleaner and Donaldson DPF Thermal Regenerator. The Pulse Cleaner cleans the DPF by removing ash and soot from the filter.

On the other hand, the Thermal Regenerator cleans a plugged diesel filter using a high temperature heating process. It bakes off any contaminant and unburned hydrocarbons. DPF filters will plug over time and require a high-temperature cleaning cycle for a deep clean. The Donaldson Pulse Cleaner & Thermal Regenerator is perfect for cleaning your DPF filters in your buses and heavy-duty diesel truck engines.
